Job Overview:
As a Telecommunications Mechanic II, you will provide technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of digital switching equipment and telecommunications systems at MSFC. In this role, you will coordinate activities of other mechanics, ensure compliance with government standards, and support efficient and reliable telecommunications operations. This position requires hands-on technical work as well as oversight responsibilities, ensuring the smooth delivery of telecommunication services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and program digital switching equipment, consoles, computer data circuits, and related apparatus in the central switching office.
- Coordinate and assign work orders to mechanics, providing technical guidance and support as needed.
- Review work orders, trouble reports, time records, and equipment logs for accuracy and completeness.
- Requisition materials, tools, and supplies to support ongoing telecommunications projects.
- Inspect completed work to verify accuracy, quality, and compliance with government regulations and standards.
- Prepare daily operating reports and summarize labor, materials, and equipment usage.
- Mentor and assist lower-level personnel in completing assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of telecommunications-related experience, including installation and maintenance of digital switching equipment.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications systems, switching equipment, and circuit troubleshooting.
- Ability to lead and coordinate technical staff.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
