Job Summary:
Join Sure Secure’s EED-3 (EOSDIS Evolution and Development) team supporting NASA’s mission to provide global access to Earth science data. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cumulus team, you’ll contribute to building a world-class operations dashboard that empowers Data Managers and System Operators to effectively operate the Cumulus framework, ensure continuous system operations, and maintain data integrity without compromise or risk.
You’ll develop innovative tools that enable scientists and students to discover, transform, and enhance Earth science data quality for solving environmental and socio-economic challenges. Cumulus is an AWS-hosted global data archive for Earth science records. Our established, high-performing agile team operates within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology.
Roles and Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work with an amazing team of engineers, on the EED-3 program, that supports NASA Earth Science (ESDIS) in its mission to provide scientists and other users access to data from NASA’s Earth science missions. Specifically, you will be on the Data Access Services team, which develops and maintains a variety of geospatial data transformation services that allow users to transform and customize their data requests from NASA’s extensive archive of Earth Science data in the cloud.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee daily activities of the Data Access Services team to include triage and prioritization of user support requests, sustainment activities, and new development efforts.
- Identify opportunities to improve sustainability and scalability of service offerings and coordinate team members to develop operational solutions.
- Implement team processes to improve customer satisfaction, transparency, and accountability.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of recurring system maintenance activities.
- Promote product goals and activities with the relevant user community (end user, developer, etc.) while also translating and prioritizing user requests into new features and functionality.
- Orchestrate feature development and operations team efforts through the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) sprint and agile processes, including coordination with other teams and release trains as needed.
Required Education and Experience:
- Energetic, self-motivated, team player that is comfortable using collaboration and open communications to build consensus around ideas and priorities.
- 5 years managing technical software development teams with demonstrated ability to effectively move features from ideas to production.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications with both technical end-users and business leadership communities.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with geospatial scientific datasets and open source tools for reading, visualizing and processing standards-based data formats (NetCDF, HDF, GeoTIFF, etc.).
- Demonstrated knowledge of AWS services and agile software development tools such as Git and Docker
Desired/Preferred Skills:
- Domain knowledge with one or more of the following:
- AWS Developer and/or Cloud Practitioner certification.
- SAFe POPM or Scrum Master Certification.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical majors such as Computer Science, Engineering, Geoscience or related technical field
- 10+ years of experience in software/systems engineering and/or team lead roles
