Job Overview:
Sure Secure is seeking a Systems Administrator to support the Engineering Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.
The role provides IT systems support within engineering and laboratory environments and requires advanced systems administration experience across Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide end-user support for Linux, Mac, and Windows workstations. Install and configure complex scientific software packages. Proactively monitor, analyze, and correct system issues. Maintain system backups. Resolve system security issues, including:
- Security patching
- Risk analysis
- Security plans
- Assist with monitoring and management of storage systems.
- Perform Linux and Windows server administration.
- Provide end-user support by tracking and resolving issues through a ticketing system.
- Develop and maintain system documentation.
- Evaluate, implement, and manage appropriate software and hardware solutions.
- Ensure data and media recoverability through scheduled system backups and database archive operations.
- Support media management through internal procedures or offsite storage and retrieval services.
- Develop and promote standard operating procedures.
- Conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers.
- Ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive operating-system hardware/software configuration documentation and libraries.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Advanced systems administration experience with exposure to:
- Linux
- Mac
- Windows
- Scripting and command-line experience.
- Experience performing system backups.
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently and satisfy customer needs with minimal day-to-day direction.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability and willingness to communicate technical tasks and concepts to others.
- Strong communication and customer-relations skills.
- Good documentation skills. Understanding of IT security best practices.
- Understanding of storage systems, including:
- SAN
- NAS
- RAID
- NFS
- LUNs
- Understanding of basic networking concepts.
Desired Skills:
- Existing Public Trust clearance. Previous NASA experience. Experience supporting research computing operations environments. Enterprise virtualization experience, particularly:
- VMware ESXi
- VMware vCenter
- Hybrid cloud implementation and cloud migration experience. Kubernetes implementation and security configuration experience. Experience developing Ansible playbooks collaboratively using Git or GitLab repositories. Relevant certifications/training, including:
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- CISSP
- CompTIA Security+
- CompTIA Server+
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator
- AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator
- Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate or DevOps Engineer Expert.
