Job Overview:
The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment using fully applicable precedents, and performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician utilizes existing knowledge while building additional knowledge of the company, client, and processes, completing work with a moderate level of guidance and direction
Key Responsibilities:
- Installing, cabling, supporting, and/or maintaining IT equipment and audio-visual conference room equipment for both legacy and new installations
- Evaluating and recommending necessary product maintenance activities and upgrades
- Performing technical analyses of conference room software, hardware and transmission equipment using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient operations
- Monitoring data traffic and controls network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission
- Demonstrating a high level of customer service, professionalism, end-user support to a large VIP customer
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and ongoing patching of conference room equipment
- Support root cause analysis activities of conference room incidents
- Identifying, trouble-shooting, and resolving technical problems related to network failure/integrity and usage of PC hardware and software including conference room displays, controllers, Crestron devices, AMX, Cisco, and other conferencing devices
- Resolving work orders for Network, VOIP, and conference room equipment
- Resolving incidents according to service level agreements for IT and AV equipment
- Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions
- Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment
- Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data
- Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation
- Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information
Required Qualifications:
- AA or AS-4 years experience or High School 6 years experience
- Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance
- Required to be on-site at Langley Research Center during business hours
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Licensed driver qualified to drive GSA owned vehicle to include 12″ box trucks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that will enable communicating information to all levels from level 1 technicians to VIP customer stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to resolve situations in a professional manner
Desired Skills:
- Experience with 70 volt indoor/outdoor Public Address (aka PA) systems
- Detail Oriented
- Solving standard problems by analyzing possible solutions using experience, judgement, and precedents
- Working within guidelines and policies
