Sure Secure hosts an event on Cloud Computing Security

August 18, 2010

On Wednesday, August 18th at The Tower Club, Vienna, suresecure hosted a very successful executive breakfast on Cloud Computing Security. Our speaker line up was made up for four industry leaders in Cloud Computing – each covering a unique aspect of security in the federal cloud environment.

The keynote speaker, Melvin Greer (Cloud Computing Chief Strategist, Lockheed Martin) suggested a re-evaluation of security architecture and emphasized the importance of securing data that moves across open, untrusted networks. Cynthia Poole (Director, Research Services, Market Connections) presented the results of her recent, high-profile cloud computing research survey. Adam Vincent (CTO, Layer 7 Technologies) proposed for cloud customers to integrate their cloud capabilities with current information assurance and cyber defense solutions, emphasizing to protect those capabilities from the threat of shared governance that includes interaction between a variety of API’s, networks, virtualization platforms, and hardware. Ron Knode (Director Global Security Solutions, CSC) stated that transparency is the most important factor in cloud security, suggesting the CloudTrust Protocol, essentially “Transparency-as-a-Service.” Mr. Knode suggests cloud computing customers to “insist on transparency as a requirement in standards and delivery, participate in a trial use of transparency technology and techniques with particular needs in mind and Influence the boundaries of reclaimed transparency to suit your needs.”
